Graduate Scool > Legal basis
The legal framework for the PhD study programme and the award of the PhD degree is laid down mainly by:
- The Danish University Act (Universitetsloven) of 25 March 2013 - the text is only available in Danish. There is only a previous, not updated version of the law available in English.
- Ministerial order No 1039 of 27 August 2013.
Other Danish legislation etc., which is applicable where relevant, e.g. the Danish Public Administration Act (Forvaltningsloven) General rules and guidelines for the PhD degree programme at the University of Copenhagen.
The code of regulations "General rules and guidelines for the PhD programme at the University of Copenhagen" lays down supplementary internal rules in relation to admission, the organisation of the programme, the appointment of a principal supervisor and any additional supervisors, the supervision of PhD students as well as the writing, submission and defence of the PhD thesis (cf. Section 25 of the Danish PhD order). The code of regulations also lays down standards for all PhD programmes at the University of Copenhagen and establishes the minimum requirements. Each faculty lays down its own supplementary provisions.
