Rebecca Adler-Nissen forsker i international politik, diplomati, digitale teknologier og EU. I øjeblikket med fokus på forholdet mellem fortrolige internationale forhandlinger, offentigheden og sociale medier. Teoretisk fokus på international politisk sociologi, the practice turn, stigma, normer samt antropologiske metoder i international politik.

Rebecca Adler-Nissen leder det ERC-financierede forskningsprojekt DIPLOFACE og forskningsgruppen Digital Disinformation, der er støttet af Carlsbergfondet. Hun er viceleder af Copenhagen Centre for Social Data Science (SODAS) ved Det Samfundsvidenskabelige Fakultet og er modtager af EliteForsk prisen i 2019.

Hun har været visiting scholar ved Centre for International Security Studies (University of Sydney), Centre for International Peace and Security Studies (McGill University/Université de Montréal) og European University Institute og arbejdet i Udenrigsministeriet med bl.a. forberedelser til det danske EU-formandskab og Det Europæiske Råds møder. I 2015 modtog hun Nils Klim-prisen og i 2016 Det Kongelige Danske Videnskabernes Selskabs Sølvmedalje. Hun er medlem af bl.a. Det Kgl. Danske Videnskabernes Selskab og European Council for Foreign Relations.
