Claus Thustrup Kreiner and Peter Birch Sørensen in new expert committee

A uniform CO2e tax is a crucial instrument for achieving the ambitious goal of reducing climate-damaging emissions in Denmark by 70 per cent. until 2030.

Claus Thustrup KreinerPeter Birch SørensenWith the agreement on a green tax reform, the government, the Liberal Party, the Radical Left, the Socialist People's Party and the Conservatives therefore agreed that an expert group should shed light on possible models for how the tax can be introduced. Now the six members of the expert group have been appointed. And among them are two of our colleagues: CEBI director professor Claus Thustrup Kreiner and professor Peter Birch Sørensen. The chairman will be Professor of Economics Michael Svarer from Aarhus University.

The expert group submits its first interim report at the end of 2021. The report will be Denmark’s first step towards establishing the framework for a future uniform CO2 tax.

In the autumn of 2022, the expert group will submit the second and final report. That report will shed light on models for a more uniform CO2e regulation of all covered emissions.
