The code of regulations lays down supplementary internal rules in relation to admission, the organisation of the programme, the appointment of a principal supervisor and any additional supervisors, the supervision of PhD students as well as the writing, submission and defence of the PhD thesis (cf. Section 25 of the Danish PhD order). The code of regulations also lays down standards for all PhD programmes at the University of Copenhagen and establishes the minimum requirements. Each faculty lays down its own supplementary provisions.
