Abstract

Student involvement in a MA class in Economics: Group presentations in class vs in poster sessions

In this project, I have experimented with two different formats of student involvement in lectures of a MA elective course in the Economics program: student group presentations in class and student group presentations during a (parallel) poster session. Student groups present content to their peers in both formats. Based on earlier experience with in-class presentations, the idea for this project was that a change of format (towards smaller groups in parallel poster presentations) would allow for (1) students to practice their presentation skills in a more “secure and intimate” environment and (2) allow for broader and more active discussions in the group of listening students. The project describes the setting and the main take-away points from this little experiment.
