Abstract

Wargaming as a Learning Tool: Gamification in Military Education from Training and Simulation to Critical Reflection

This explorative project is a preliminary study of how wargaming can be used as a pedagogic method and learning tool in the military education system. Based on observations of how the teachers and trainers at the Command Course apply different wargaming methods on their “command exercises”, the intent of the project is to 1) start an ongoing mapping of the various meanings and uses of wargaming, and 2) shape a tentative model for an academic reflection on the learning outcome of these wargames.
