Abstract

From consumers to co-producers of knowledge: Inviting the students into the anthro lab

This project explores how we can help students constitute themselves as active co-producers rather than passive consumers of knowledge within the framework of the elective courses at the Department of Anthropology, KU. It does so by describing and reflecting upon two exercises in research-education integration, which aim to include the students in the research process instead of simply presenting them with its final product. The purpose of this is threefold: It aims to create “knowledge building” communities across student-staff divides at the university, to enhance the employability of graduates and to foster close alignment between the teaching and research activities of course conveners to spark passion in the former and productivity in the latter.
