Introduction to teaching

The course is primarily aimed at PhD-students, teaching assistants and external lecturers at the Faculty of Social Sciences. But other and more experienced target groups are also welcome.

All courses are open to participants from all five departments of the faculty. The programme runs from 9.15 am to approx. 3.00 pm both days. The location will be announced at the end of the registration deadline.

The courses are taught by experienced educational advisors.

The two course days will provide participants with concrete tools, tips and good advice for planning and implementing classroom teaching at the Faculty of Social Sciences. Through exercises, examples and presentations, we will discuss questions such as:

  • What is required of a good teacher?
  • What are the needs of your students?
  • How do you best prepare for teaching?
  • What tools do you have available?
  • How do you handle difficult situations in class?
  • How do you create a lively dialogue in class?

As part of the course, all participants try to teach for 10 minutes. You must have prepared the 10 minutes of teaching in advance. Participants and teachers on the course act as your students, and participate actively and constructively. You are free to choose to use e.g. powerpoint or blackboard. It is important that you have planned the form of the teaching so that "the students" are activated, interact with each other or the material. What you choose to teach must be an academic point, e.g. an introduction to a theory or model, preferably part of your future teaching course.

The 10-minute teaching is followed by constructive feedback from the teacher and the other participants in the class.

The registration deadline is one week before the start of the course, but please note that there is a limited number of participants. Cancellation can only be made up to four working days before the start of the course.

You are not registered for the course, until you have received a final confirmation of this from the Educational Advisors.
